Tooth Fillings and Bonding

At Sarasota Dental Arts, we don't believe a cavity should mar your smile. We offer tooth-colored composite fillings.

Composite Fillings & Bonding in Sarasota, FL

According to the National Institutes of Health, more than 9 in 10 U.S. adults will have a cavity at some point in their lives. More than 1 in 4 have decay that is going untreated.

Dental caries, which you probably know better as “cavities,” is one of the most prevalent health issues known today. While we’ve come a long way in reducing cavity risk and decreasing the number of cavities people experience, we still haven’t managed to eradicate cavities completely, as these numbers clearly show.

This means that filling cavities is a common procedure at Dr. Aygen’s Sarasota dental office.

At the same time, we believe that a cavity shouldn’t be a reason for your tooth to be permanently marred by dark, amalgam fillings. Not when a better option is available.

Tooth-Colored Composite Fillings

Most of cavities can be filled using a composite material that can be blended so that it perfectly matches the natural shade of your tooth enamel. That means that once the filling is placed, even you won’t be able to spot it!

Amalgam fillings were an appropriate technology for filling cavities for many years. Today, however, we can do better. In addition to the huge aesthetic advantage composites have, tooth-colored fillings have even more advantages over amalgam fillings. For instance:

  • Composite fillings don’t contain mercury. While the mercury in dental fillings has been shown in multiple studies to be safe and has been approved for use by the FDA, many people still feel uncomfortable with its use.
  • Composite fillings don’t require special equipment to keep mercury out of the environment.
  • Composite fillings actually bond to the structure of the tooth, reducing the risk that the restoration might come loose or fall out.
  • Over time, metal fillings can break down and leak or cause damage to the tooth.

Cosmetic and Restorative Bonding

Another advantage of composite filling material is its versatility. This makes the composite a good option for correcting a number of aesthetic and structural problems with your teeth. Dental bonding is a dental procedure that can often be completed in just one office visit, and it’s a less costly alternative to veneers.

Some of the common concerns that Dr. Aygen can fix with bonding include:

  • Small chips and cracks
  • Areas of discoloration
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Short or eroded teeth
  • Unusually shaped teeth

We Love Our Patients

and our patients love us!

Just had my first visit with Sarasota Dental Arts. The staff was super friendly. Dr. Aygen gave me the most thorough dental exam I have ever had. He went over a complete dental plan with me and answered all my questions. When I left, I had a print out of what we discussed, including prices. Glad I made the switch.

Highly recommend if going to the dentist gives you anxiety like it does for me. Everyone is so personable and they make you feel comfortable as soon as you walk through the door and throughout your whole time there.

I’ve had a fear of going to the dentist since I was a kid. I can honestly say after coming to the office several times that I will never go to another Dentist. My mother recommended them to me. I recommend them to everyone. The staff and Kaya Aygen, D.M.D are very nice and take the time to explain to you any questions you may have.
