Whatever your smile faces, we're here to help!

After-hours, same-day appointments, and sedation options available

Are you experiencing a dental emergency in Sarasota?

Sometimes it’s hard to tell. A good rule of thumb is when you’re in doubt, contact your team at Sarasota Dental Arts to assess your situation and give you further instruction.

When an emergency happens, prompt treatment is often the difference between simple, conservative treatments and the need for more complex care. We always want to provide you with the most straightforward treatment possible to relieve your discomfort and restore the health of your tooth.

Dr. Aygen will evaluate your needs, and if we do need to see you, we will make every effort to schedule you the same day. If you don’t need immediate treatment, we can often give you instructions over the phone on handling your situation at home. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

At Sarasota Dental Arts, we provide a wide range of services, and we can help with the emotions that arise with dental emergencies. We also offer comforting amenities and options for dental sedation for patients who may feel anxious or fearful about dental procedures. Whether you are a new or established patient, if you are experiencing a dental emergency, don’t hesitate to give our office a call.

Among the most common dental emergencies our dentists see are:

• Injuries to the gums or lips

• Broken or lost dental restorations

• Trauma to the jaws, gums, or teeth

• Objects lodged between teeth

• Severe tooth pain or sensitivity

• Partially dislodged teeth

What should I do in a dental emergency?

Dental emergencies are an unfortunate fact of life. While good home care and regular visits for examinations and cleanings can significantly reduce your risk of an emergency, the chances are good that you will probably still experience a dental injury or infection at some point in your life.

In most cases, we can treat emergencies either the same day you call or within 24 hours. Some emergencies require immediate treatment (for instance, when a tooth is knocked out of place), so we will ask you questions to determine the nature of your emergency and whether you are in pain.

All you have to do is give us a call, and we’ll ask a few questions to determine how quickly you need to be seen. If you are in pain, we will do our very best to get you in right away. Sometimes, an emergency will require a visit to make you comfortable and stabilize the tooth, and then we’ll ask you to return for additional treatment that will protect your tooth in the long run.

What not to do in a dental emergency!

As frustrating, painful, and even scary as a dental emergency can be, the number one rule is this:

Don’t panic!

Stay calm and call our office right away. We usually have same-day appointments available, so we can get you in and help you feel better fast. In the meantime, we can give you advice to help you stay comfortable until you can get to our dental office.

We know that several outdated myths are floating around regarding how to treat a dental emergency, but these are, unfortunately, often the worst advice.

If you are experiencing an emergency, please don’t do any of these things:

  • Ignore the pain and hope it goes away. Pain that goes away could indicate that the nerve is dead, which will require more extensive treatment soon.
  • Put aspirin on your tooth. While taking over-the-counter pain medication like aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil), or acetaminophen (Tylenol) can help make you more comfortable, applying aspirin directly to the painful spot can actually cause more damage. A topical pain reliever like Orajel could be helpful, though!
  • Pull your own tooth. Not many people will attempt this, but don’t assume that we can’t save the tooth or that pulling it will solve the pain. Let us take a look instead!

If your tooth hurts, your gums are swollen, or you have an injury, please call Sarasota Dental Arts quickly so we can help you feel like yourself again!

We Love Our Patients

and our patients love us!

Just had my first visit with Sarasota Dental Arts. The staff was super friendly. Dr. Aygen gave me the most thorough dental exam I have ever had. He went over a complete dental plan with me and answered all my questions. When I left, I had a print out of what we discussed, including prices. Glad I made the switch.

Highly recommend if going to the dentist gives you anxiety like it does for me. Everyone is so personable and they make you feel comfortable as soon as you walk through the door and throughout your whole time there.

I’ve had a fear of going to the dentist since I was a kid. I can honestly say after coming to the office several times that I will never go to another Dentist. My mother recommended them to me. I recommend them to everyone. The staff and Kaya Aygen, D.M.D are very nice and take the time to explain to you any questions you may have.
